As the Covid-19 restrictions continue, it’s given me a rare chance to catch up with various ideas – from composition to writing and research – that have taken second place to work. Over the years I’ve kicked around numerous concepts for musicals, most of which have come to nothing: my preferred way of developing a musical would be to work with a small ensemble and workshop the content into something viable. Oh well, maybe one day.
Anyhow, in the meantime here’s an interim orchestral overture from an imaginary musical about two lovers living in parallel universes — ‘There’s a world for us’ (somewhere in the multiverse). I’ll spare you the incomplete lyrics that go with the vocal version of what I envisage as a duet between the lovers, other than to say they involve various references to time, space, matter and energy.
